Model guide
A familiar face.
Your own creation.
Find a character you love or make one yourself. Bring the finished model into oomi and keep shaping your companion’s name and personality here.
Start with VRoid Hub.
- Browse VRoid Hub and open a model’s page.
- Sign in there if asked. Check that the creator allows third-party use and offers a download.
- Read the model’s usage conditions, then download its .vrm file.
- Return to oomi → Characters → Upload VRM model. Preview it before continuing.
Some models can only be used through Hub-connected apps and cannot be downloaded. Choose a downloadable model for this upload flow.
VRoid’s download help ↗Create in VRoid Studio.
- Get VRoid Studio. Make a character or open a .vroid project you have permission to edit.
- Choose the face, hair, proportions and clothes you want. Save the editable project.
- Use Export VRM, fill in the model information and save the .vrm file. Both VRM 0.x and VRM 1.0 are supported in oomi.
- Upload that exported file to oomi and check the preview.
For a new wardrobe, VRoid Studio’s Dress-Up feature supports compatible model and clothing files and exports a finished VRM 1.0.
Official VRM export walkthrough ↗More places to find models and clothes.
BOOTH has creator-made models, VRoid projects and clothing. Check the listing carefully: buy or download a .vrm for direct upload, or a .vroid project for editing in VRoid Studio first. An outfit or texture alone is not a complete character.
Each creator sets their own conditions for use, editing and attribution. A free download does not mean unrestricted use.
Already have a VRM you want to change?
For full face and hair editing in VRoid Studio, ask the creator for the original .vroid project. A downloaded VRM does not restore that editable project. The newer Dress-Up feature can change compatible outfits; deeper model edits can be made in Blender with a VRM add-on or Unity with UniVRM, when the creator permits them.
oomi displays imported characters as they are. To change their appearance, edit outside oomi, export a fresh VRM, then choose Upload a different model.
Before you upload.
- Use a complete humanoid .vrm model with its textures included. This is the rig format oomi’s avatar animations use.
- Keep the file under 64 MB. For smoother playback, especially on phones, lower texture resolution and polygon count when exporting.
- Textures must be PNG or JPEG, up to 4096 pixels on either side. Very detailed models may need a smaller export.
- Check facing, clothing, hair and idle motion in the preview. Different body proportions can change how an animation looks.
Where does my model go?
Your model is saved in this browser, so it survives a page refresh and works in your oomi avatar view here. It does not sync to your account, iPhone or another browser yet. Keep your original file: clearing site data or browser storage can remove this copy.
To remove a file, open Characters and choose Remove beside it. If a saved model goes missing, upload it again or choose a bundled character. Your companion’s name and personality stay the same.
Something didn’t load?
- “That is a VRoid Studio project”
- Open the .vroid in VRoid Studio and export VRM. Renaming the extension does not convert it.
- “Missing part of its humanoid rig”
- Export a complete humanoid avatar as VRM. A general GLB, FBX or clothing file is not enough.
- “Too detailed for oomi”
- Reduce texture resolution and polygon count, then export again. Avoid giant texture atlases.
- “No longer saved in this browser”
- Upload your original VRM again. If storage is blocked, allow site storage or use another browser.
